The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB), Mr. John Awuah, has emphasized the critical role of financial literacy and planning in building sustainable household wealth and securing family legacies.

Speaking in his capacity as Board Chair and Conference Chair at the third edition of the National Estate and Gift Planning Awareness Conference (NEGPA 2025), held at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), Mr. Awuah underscored the need for Ghanaians to cultivate a culture of financial discipline and estate planning.

He noted that financial literacy goes beyond increasing income — it is fundamentally about effective management, preservation, and intergenerational transfer of wealth.

“Financial literacy is not just about earning more, but about managing and preserving what we already have,” Mr. Awuah stated.

The conference brought together banking executives, legal practitioners, policymakers, and academics to deliberate on integrating estate and financial planning into Ghana’s education system and cultural practices.

As CEO of GAB, Mr. Awuah continues to champion initiatives that deepen financial inclusion, promote responsible banking, and enhance public awareness of long-term wealth management strategies. His leadership in this year’s event highlights the banking sector’s strategic role in fostering financial resilience and protecting family legacies through structured financial education and planning.

The Centre for Financial Literacy Education Africa (CFLE Africa) - organizers of the annual conference — has positioned the initiative as a national platform to promote awareness on estate planning, wealth preservation, and philanthropy.

This year’s edition was also supported by key partners, including the Ghana Association of Banks, KPMG, GhanaThink Foundation, and Financial Awareness Foundation, with media coverage from Joy News and Seventeen Multimedia.
